UX/UI Design
This project was a concept that came from being a single dad trying to manage the quality of food around my house. Keeping tabs on when things need to be pitched or used quickly sounds simple at first, but any busy adult has plenty of reasons to not prioritize refrigerator inventory management. What if there was a way to get updates on the state of your fridge? Expiration Station is built to stay one step ahead of your inventory by notifying you when best use windows are closing and when they may have already slammed shut.
Through a bit of research(1, 2) I determined that most grocery stores use databases to provide valuable information. When an item is scanned, the barcode information hits a database and that relays info like the price of the item back to the till. The database has other fields of information available and a major action item is approaching relevant employees at grocery store chains to learn about how the database can be modified to send information to our app. Once that is determined, it becomes a matter of figuring out how to get an origin date to our app. Origin date would start the clock on how long the item remains in optimal consuming mode.
