I really enjoy UX/UI design and am becoming as passionate about it as I am about branding. In an effort to pivot into that corner of the design world, I embraced a couple self-initiated projects. MediaFolio was created as a competitor to Discogs, the widely accepted standard for people looking to catalog their physical music media (vinyl records, compact discs, cassettes, eight tracks) collections. It is quite the community complete with a marketplace and a robust database of information. There are some areas that some of the surveyed users believe should be addressed and I attempted that with this project.
The most egregious issue with Discogs is the fact sellers do not have to post pictures of the actual item they are selling in a listing. The buyer is forced to accept the often wildly varied assessment of the items condition. My initial thought was to leverage meta data in images taken by the seller to validate they are current actual item photos. But as brainstorming often spirals and I had recently been learning about the capabilities of AI models, I wondered if you could train AI to grade records by first feeding it millions of images of records in varying conditions and then giving it a second course of millions of audio files of records been played which would reveal the pops and clicks and all things analog.
